Edison STEM Scholar Opportunities
The Edison STEM Scholars Program is funded by Edison International for 2022. UCSB students who are majoring in one of the following fields may apply for the programs outlined below.
Edison majors (B.S. majors only) include:
- Chemical Engineering
- Chemistry
- Computer Science
- Earth Science
- Electrical Engineering
- Environmental Studies
- Mathematics
- Mechanical Engineering
- Physics
- Statistics
Edison student eligibility criteria:
- Be majoring in one of our Edison-eligible majors listed above
- Currently enrolled at UCSB
- Have a cumulative and quarter GPA of 3.0 or above
- Must be a citizen, permanent resident of the United States, or Dream Scholar
- Have an interest in research and graduate school
- Identify as low-income, first-generation, veterans, or students underrepresented in Edison-specified fields
Edison STEM Program 2022 Research Scholarships
Description
Scholarships to undergraduates in support of research-related and/or graduate school-related activities, among which may be a research stipend, registration and membership costs for professional conference participation, support for research supplies or equipment, support for a graduate school preparation course, or graduate school application expenses. This scholarship will reimburse research-related expenses and graduate school application expenses incurred from January 1 to September 1, 2022.
Eligibility
Undergraduates in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better in the following B.S. majors: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Statistics. Scholarships are available to low-income, first-generation, veterans, or students underrepresented in Edison-specified fields.
Students must be engaged in research activities with a UCSB faculty member to apply for a scholarship. For both research-related and graduate school-related expenses, the student must include a signature from a faculty member in support of their application.

Edison STEM Program 2022 Summer Research Program
Description
A research opportunity in Summer 2022. Students participate in research under the direction of a UCSB faculty mentor (in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Studies, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Statistics), meet weekly in a seminar with a graduate student mentor for professional development activities, and present research in a poster or oral format in August 2022. Program runs from June 21 through August 13, 2022.
Eligibility
Undergraduates in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Students must be engaged in research at UCSB during the summer of 2022. Scholarships are available to low-income, first-generation, veterans, or students underrepresented in Edison-specified fields.
Student’s application must include ONE letter of recommendation from the UCSB faculty member who is or will be supervising their work this summer.
Stipend
$4,000 for full summer participation
